Among the 778 wells reporting depth, the median is 40 ft, and the middle half falls between 30 and 70 ft. That is a useful starting range for a drilling estimate, not a promised stopping depth. Local sediment thickness and the water-bearing material beneath the parcel determine where a driller can finish.
Recorded depths are predominantly shallow: 87% are under 100 ft, and the 90th percentile is 104 ft. The deepest record reaches 2,035 ft, but that outlier is not a sensible household-well budget baseline.
Most permits carry an unnamed / fractured-bedrock aquifer label. That broad record category does not establish the geology beneath your lot. Compare nearby completion logs before choosing a target depth.
Only 77 wells report pump yield, so Crowley County's 45.0 gpm median describes a limited reporting group. The middle half spans 10.0-310.0 gpm, a wide spread that makes the county median a poor substitute for testing a particular well.
The permit inventory includes stock, irrigation and domestic uses. Those different purposes matter when comparing production figures. Reported yields include 8% in the 1-5 gpm range and 25% in the 5-15 gpm range. The recorded share under 1 gpm is 0%, but that does not prove every parcel can produce water.
For a purchase, request a sustained pumping and recovery test. A reported pump yield is neither a guarantee of long-term output nor permission to pump at that rate.
Static water level is the depth to resting water, not the bottom of the well or its level while pumping. Crowley County has 41 reported static levels, with a median of 18 ft below ground and a middle half of 15-23 ft.
The decade medians move from 16 ft in the 2010s to 21 ft in the 2020s. That points toward deeper water in the later measurements, but it does not establish a countywide decline. The records may represent different wells, seasons and pumping conditions rather than repeated measurements at the same locations.

The local cost model uses $35-$55 per foot for alluvium and plains sedimentary rock. At the 40 ft median depth, the drilled hole alone comes to about $1,400-$2,200. A finished well with pump, tank, trenching and electrical is modeled at $7,400-$14,200.
The difference matters on a vacant lot: paying for the hole does not deliver water to the house. Ask the contractor to spell out casing, grout, development, testing and equipment, along with any exclusions.
Use the 30-70 ft middle-depth range to discuss uncertainty in the bid. Access, trench routing, power availability and the actual completion depth can change the project price. The county model is a planning allowance, not a parcel-specific quote.
Mapped environmental records within about 10 miles include 5 PFAS sampling/contamination sites, 6 EPA Superfund/cleanup sites and 1 historic mine feature. Those counts flag subjects to investigate; they do not establish that a particular Crowley County well is contaminated.
Have a laboratory test the property's water for bacteria, nitrate and locally relevant constituents. Review nearby environmental records to decide whether PFAS or other targeted testing is warranted. Inspect the casing, sanitary cap, grout documentation and drainage around the wellhead.
